Amid the rolling hills of Long Island's north shore, the State University of New York at Stony Brook campus spreads out over 1,100 acres of heavily wooded countryside. Located at the border of suburban and rural Long Island, equidistant from the western and eastern ends, Stony Brook students enjoy the best of many worlds. The University is less than 60 miles from Manhattan which is easily accessible by train or car. At the same time, the tranquility of Long Island's rural areas and seashores are adjacent to the campus. Stony Brook lies about a mile from the shores of Long Island Sound, and less than 15 miles from the wide sandy beaches of the Atlantic on Fire Island, Long Island's southern coast. • Enter the South entrance which will be on your left.
• Follow the road until you come to the stop light.
• Turn RIGHT at the stop light onto Marburger Drive.
• Follow Marburger Drive, which becomes Circle Drive (keep left) to the 4th stop sign.
• At the 4th stop sign, turn RIGHT onto Campus Drive and then immediately turn left again onto John S. Toll Drive
• Proceed about 50 yards then turn right into the large paved parking lot. (ESS Parking Lot)

The Earth and Space Sciences building is the large concrete building at the northeast end of the parking lot.

If you are arriving between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, you will need a pass to park in the ESS parking lot. However, because the lot is often full you should consider parking in the parking garage near the Administration Building. See map link above.
